Farmington Hills company gets furniture contractNorthwest Airlines has awarded Farmington Hills-based University Business Interiors a $3 million contract to supply all of the furniture, with the exception of gate seating, for the new terminal at Detroit Metropolitan Airport. University Business Interiors will supply and install office furniture, outdoor seating, auditorium seating, free standing desks, work stations, tables, garbage receptacles and passenger stanchions for the new terminal, which is scheduled to open in December. The company also will furnish the Northwest WorldKids Club. "These furnishings will provide comfort and utility for our customers and employees while contributing to the modern, world-class design that will distinguish the new terminal," said Jim Greenwald, Northwest vice president - facilities and airport affairs. "We are also delighted that a Michigan-based company is playing this type of role in a project that will have such a positive impact on this State." "We are excited to be part of this dynamic project and participate in the growth of the metro Detroit area," said Joseph Lozowski, University Business Interiors owner and president. "This is a great opportunity." About half of the furniture supplied by University Business Interiors will be of the Premise line from Haworth, Inc., a Holland, Michigan-based designer, manufacturer and marketer of office furniture. University Business Interiors will supply and install the remaining items of the order from other specialty vendors. The new terminal will feature 97 gates, 18 luggage carousels, an 11,500 space parking garage, an Express Tram system and more than 80 shops and restaurants in an open and spacious environment. Part of a public-private partnership between Wayne County, which operates the airport, and Northwest Airlines, the project has approximately 10 months remaining in a five-year design and construction process. More than 1,200 workers are now involved in construction of the terminal. Officials for both the airline and Wayne County expect it to rank as one of the world's finest air facilities after it opens in December. |
